The XX Aniversario wine is a selected assembly of 6 barrels of 225-liter from different vintages (2016, 2017 and 2018) that reflects Aalto's philosophy at its best. A strong and elegant wine that has remained, depending on the vintage, from 20 to 40 months in the barrel. Three different vintages, all of them qualified according to the D.O. Ribera del Duero as "very good".
The year 2016 was characterized by a warm climate, very atypical for a continental climate like the one we have in this area, giving our wines a magnificent complexity.
During 2017, production was drastically reduced throughout the Ribera del Duero due to drought and frost. Even so, thanks to a great work in the vineyard and in the winery, we made a great vintage and a fruity and expressive wine.
Finally, the year 2018 turned out to be a typical great vintage, with optimal weather conditions that allowed for excellent ripening of the grapes.
At the end of October 2020 they assembled the 6 barrels, giving rise to Aalto XX Aniversario.
20 YEARS OF WINERY
HISTORY OF A SPECIAL EDITION
Twenty years have passed since the founding of Aalto.
It all started in a small facility in Roa (Burgos) in 1999 and later, in 2005, the winery moved to the current winery in Quintanilla de Arriba (Valladolid).
During all these years the production philosophy has remained faithful to the beginnings, creating modern wines that excite, with a complexity derived from the more than 200 plots of Tempranillo that we control, together with the contribution of the old vineyard and the great work of our winemaker and technical director Mariano García.
The idea of making this 20th Anniversary wine, as well as its design, has a very curious history that begins at the end of 2018 with a visit to our winery by an executive from Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland).
While they were tasting the wines, the idea arose to collaborate with this important and renowned university, considered among the 10 best in art and design worldwide, for the design of the 20th Anniversary packaging. They looked for something very special that could be considered ‘’ a small work of art ’’ and symbolized the passion for the land, but without giving up the modernity and design that characterize both the university and the winery.
For almost two years they developed the idea together, with the enthusiasm of being able to capture their essence, both in the wine and in the packaging that surrounds it. The latter represents the terroir and the roots of our old vineyards, our soul for twenty years.
For the special label that commemorates these 20 years, they chose a noble metal such as gold, leaving the usual design of our bottles, with white, black and silver.
In total, only 450 bottles have been produced in a 3-liter format that come from 6 selected barrels from different vintages. These barrels have remained stored and cared for in the cellar during these last years, assembling them before bottling following the guidelines of Mariano García.
