CHEVREUX-BOURNAZEL LA PARCELLE COTEAUX CHAMPENOIS BLANC 2014
La Parcelle Coteaux Champenois Blanc 2014 represents one of the most exclusive and rare expressions of Champagne. Made by Stéphanie Chevreux and Julien Bournazel on their small estate in Barzy-sur-Marne, this still white wine comes from a single plot cultivated biodynamically, demonstrating the extraordinary potential of the Meunier variety when working with low yields and a minimal intervention philosophy.
From a vineyard of just 0.4 hectares planted in 1976 on siliceous clay soils with a calcareous subsoil, La Parcelle 2014 is a rarity within the Champagne region. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in used Burgundy barrels, followed by 34 months of extended aging on the lees, which imparts depth, texture, and complexity without masking the vineyard's character.
The nose is intense and elegant, combining notes of candied orange peel, ripe apple, dried citrus, yellow fruit, dried flowers, and delicate hints of brioche, toasted almond, and damp stone. Aeration reveals additional layers of soft spices, salinity, and mineral nuances that clearly recall great terroir-driven white wines.
The palate is notable for its breadth and energy. It possesses a rich, enveloping texture sustained by vibrant acidity that provides tension and length. The mid-palate is deep, precise, and extraordinarily complex, with a marked mineral expression and a persistent finish that reveals citrus, saline, and slightly smoky notes.
More than just a white Champagne, La Parcelle 2014 is a collector's item that showcases the region's lesser-known side: that of great still wines capable of competing in complexity and aging potential with some of France's finest whites.
FOOD PAIRING
Magnificent with warm oysters, scallops, lobster, turbot, rockfish, fine poultry, high-end Japanese cuisine, young, pressed cheeses, and dishes where the wine's minerality and depth can fully express themselves.
