D.O. Rías Baixas, Galicia - 100% Espadeiro grapes from old vines cultivated on the pebbly, sandy, and granite soils typical of the Val do Salnés. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the must is fermented with indigenous yeasts, seeking to preserve the pure expression of the grape and the Atlantic terroir. After fermentation, the wine ages for approximately 12 months in a used 500-liter French oak barrel.
The result of this process is a very limited production wine (approximately 600 bottles), with around 12% alcohol, a fresh and balanced profile that combines notes of ripe red fruit, wild herbs, and light spicy or balsamic touches, soft tannins, and a marked acidity characteristic of Galician reds made from local varieties.
Overall, Goliardo Espadeiro 2023 represents both Rodrigo Méndez's respect for the winemaking tradition of the Salnés region and his commitment to revitalizing and showcasing historical varieties that had been overshadowed by Albariño, offering with each bottle an authentic expression of the terroir and the Atlantic climate that defines this part of Galicia.
