D.O.Ca. Rioja, Spain - 95% Tempranillo, accompanied by small proportions of other traditional Rioja varieties such as Viura, Malvasía, Graciano, and Mazuelo, all sourced from old vines (30 to over 50 years old) planted in clay-limestone soils with a high percentage of silt and limestone, which contributes structure, freshness, and minerality to the wine.
The production of Anza 2023 follows a respectful and artisanal approach to both the vineyard and the winery: the grapes are hand-harvested from selected plots in locations such as Laguardia and Elvillar, relatively high elevations within Rioja Alavesa that favor balanced ripening; each plot is vinified separately in large open vats (4,000 L) and open 500 L barrels, with fermentation using indigenous yeasts and macerations that extract color and texture without harshness. After fermentation, the wine ages for approximately 12 months in used vats and barrels of various sizes (from 2,200 L to 500 L) before blending and bottling.
The result is a balanced and elegant Rioja, with a vibrant ruby color, aromas of ripe red fruit with spicy notes, and a long, lingering finish characterized by fine tannins, good acidity, and a direct expression of the Rioja Alavesa terroir.
