Luis Anxo Rodríquez Viña de Martín Escolma 2021

Ref. B0101101Ñ

D.O. Ribeiro, Galicia (Spain) -  It comes from about 14 micro-plots located in the Arnoia valley. The native varieties Treixadura, Albariño, Lado and Torrontés are selected from the oldest vines in the poorest soils with a very low yield of 1kg of grapes per vine. Each plot ferments separately normally in oak barrels of different sizes (some plots may ferment exclusively in steel depending on the year) and is aged separately for a year, after which the wines are mixed and bottled to remain in the bottle at At least another 3 years before its commercialization. We are facing one of the most prestigious and experienced winemakers in Ribeiro, a "vigneron" recognized as one of the best in the country. Recommended by El Sommelier.

LUIS ANXO RODRÍGUEZ Viña de Martín Escoma 2015

Luis Anxo Rodríguez is, in our opinion, the spiritual father of the "wine revolution" of Galicia. When quality wines were still unknown in Galicia and the objective was to produce high yield wines, Luis Anxo, began to produce wines with native varieties, with the aim of demonstrating their potential to produce distinctive and aging wines . Luis Anxo, a slow and humble man, studied philosophy and oenology at the wine school in Madrid and on his return, in 1988, he began to elaborate in the place of Os Pasás, in Paixón (Arnoia), restructuring old vineyards of foreign varieties of Palomino and Garnacha Tintorera to the old traditional varietals in Ribeiro. He was a visionary and proof of this is in his wines; We do not know wines so old in Galicia that they have evolved as well as Luis Anxo wines. You can still taste bottles from the 90s, 2000s and 2001 in full form. From its beginnings, it remained true to its philosophy of producing wines that would show their full potential over the years, as do great wines, oblivious to fads and today this recognition is unanimous in the world of wine.

Currently Luis Anxo works 5 Ha., 3.7 Ha in the Arnoia Valley and 1.3 Ha in Rivadavia, scattered in about 100 micro-plots. The soils are mostly of broken granite sand. The vines are between 10 and 50 years old and only work with native varieties, Treixadura, Albariño, Lado and Torrontés for whites and Brancellao, Caíño Longo, Caiño Redondo and Ferrol for the reds. It only includes something of the native Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera in its basic red Eidos Ermos. His philosophy in the vineyard is to maintain balance. It does not use either herbicides or insecticides, although fungicides because Mildiu is a latent pathogen in the ribeiro. The treatments are applied only if it is absolutely necessary, and never for a month before harvest to help preserve the native yeasts existing in the grapes that help initiate spontaneous fermentation.

Viña de Martín Escolma 2015 is the high-end white wine produced by Luis Anxo in Ribeiro, it comes from about 14 micro-plots located in the Arnoia valley.

Viña de Martín Escolma 2015 is a complex and subtle white that develops nuances of white fruit, stone fruit, citrus skin, quince, light smoked and spicy like white pepper a touch of honey and fennel. In the mouth it is wide, with structure, unctuous, vertebrate by a magnificent acidity that makes it fresh and tasty, the wood is very well integrated and has a very long aftertaste.
