Descendientes de J. Palacios VILLA DE CORULLÓN 2015
Descendientes de J. Palacios is the name of the company that Álvaro Palacios, son of José Palacios, and Ricardo Pérez Palacios, Álvaro's nephew, formed in 1999 in honor of José Palacios, father and grandfather respectively, who died one year later. Both come from renowned winemaking families with five generations of tradition in La Rioja as Palacios Remondo and los Muro. Álvaro Palacios is currently one of the most respected winemakers in the national territory with a long history that began in the Priorat in 1989 where he led the resurgence of the wines of this region placing them at the highest levels of prestige today. Currently, in addition to the Priorat and the Bierzo, he is responsible for the family winery Herencia Remondo and his commitment to the Garnacha in Alfaro. Ricardo Palacios has a long experience in France, Chile and the United States and it can be said that he is one of the most important winemakers in the resurgence of the last decade of Bierzo wines. Currently the winery is located in a new building designed by the architect Rafael Moneo, a place excavated in the mountain in whose upper part there is a viewpoint from which to observe some of the most special vineyards, such as Moncerbal, Las Lamas and La Faraona.
Descendientes de J. Palacios owns 40 hectares of vineyards spread over 200 plots. A constellation of tiny vineyards of old vines on very steep soils of slate rocks with thick laminar structure that date mostly from the lower Cambrian period. Viticulture follows the principles of biodynamics, which unites the organic and the immaterial in a permanent search for definition and purity. The climate is continental with clear oceanic influences, such as a pluviometry of more than 800 mm per year. The 2015 vintage was marked by a rainy winter and spring, with mild temperatures, which favored sprouting and flowering. The summer was hot and with little rainfall which caused the grape to ripen earlier than in previous seasons and it started on September 7, earlier than expected. Villa El Corullón 2015, is what the current zoning regulations of the D.O. Bierzo promoted among others by Ricardo himself, it would be called "Villa Wine", since the grapes come from several small plots (8.6 ha) in property located exclusively in the municipality of Corullón. Located on very steep slopes and at an altitude of 500 to 950 meters above sea level. The grapes were partially destemmed and fermented with native yeasts for approximately 32 days in open wooden tubs with "bazuqueos". Maceration for another 32 days and spontaneous malolactic fermentation in wooden vats. He carried out a 16-month aging in French oak barrels. Villa El Corullón 2015 is composed of approximately 89% Mencía, 9% Palomino and 2% of various castes such as Alicante Bouschet, Gran Negro, Pan y Carne and Negrega. It has an intense cherry color, on the nose it is subtle, with a predominance of ripe red fruit on a balsamic background. The palate has a silky texture, ripe tannins and a lot of elegance in the form of balance. Production of 19,572 bottles, 720 half bottles, 450 magnum, 45 double magnum and 30 Jeroboam. 14% Alc.
