Bodegas Fulcro A Cesteira Albariño 2024 clearly belongs to this second category: a single-vineyard wine crafted by Manuel Moldes in the Salnés Valley, where Albariño finds one of its most personal and complex expressions.

This wine originates from a small plot of approximately 0.7 hectares located in Villalonga, near Sanxenxo. There, Albariño vines around 60 years old grow in decomposed schist soils, a type of terrain that imparts a mineral character and a marked sense of tension to the wine. The plot's name is also linked to the history of a family of basket makers, artisans traditionally dedicated to basket weaving—a connection to the culture and memory of the place that forms part of this wine's identity.

The grapes are harvested and carefully crafted to preserve the vineyard's expression. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, and the wine then rests for approximately 11 months on its lees in a 2,500-liter neutral French oak foudre. This vessel allows for a slow and gradual evolution, contributing texture and depth without overpowering the Albariño's character and the terroir from which it originates.

The 2024 vintage offers a particularly serious and elegant profile. On the nose, notes of white fruit, citrus, fresh herbs, and delicate hints of toast and anise appear. On the palate, it displays an intense entry, marked acidity, and a precise texture that combines volume and tension. Aging adds depth, but the wine maintains a vibrant energy, with a pronounced saline dimension and a long, flavorful, and extraordinarily elegant finish.

Bodegas Fulcro A Cesteira Albariño 2024 is a wine that demonstrates the full potential of Albariño when it is carefully cultivated in the vineyard and given time to mature. The age of the vines, the decomposed schist soils, the spontaneous fermentation, and the long aging in foudres create a white wine of great personality, in which power is never separated from freshness and complexity does not compromise precision.

At El Sumiller, we selected A Cesteira because it represents one of the most interesting expressions of contemporary Albariño: a wine of specific origin, crafted with sensitivity, and capable of demonstrating that the Salnés Valley can offer white wines of enormous depth, gastronomic potential, and aging aspirations. A serious, mineral, saline, and elegant Albariño, to be savored slowly and to discover how the landscape of the Rías Baixas can be expressed in a bottle.
