Eulogio Pomares SAL DA TERRA 2024

Ref. B0101261C

D.O. Rías Baixas (Galicia) , Spain - 100% Albariño from a key part of the Carballoso vineyard, located in Xil, Meaño, about six kilometers from the sea and at an altitude of approximately 250 meters. The vines, around 38 years old, are rooted in sandy granite soils, a type of terrain that gives the Albariño a marked sense of freshness, tension, and minerality. This portion of the grapes ferments in a 1,200-liter chestnut barrel, a traditional vessel that adds texture and complexity without overpowering the vineyard's expression.

The rest of the wine comes from the Francón vineyard, a plot that is also the source of Pedraneira, one of Eulogio Pomares' most personal wines. This portion ferments and matures in a 1,500-liter concrete tank, a material that allows for a slow evolution and a very direct expression of the fruit and its origin. The combination of these two wines, crafted separately in chestnut and concrete, builds the character of Sal da Terra: a balanced, elegant, harmonious, clean, and expressive Albariño. Another impeccable creation from the master Pomares. Recommended by The Sommelier.

EULOGIO POMARES SAL DA TERRA 2024

Eulogio Pomares Sal da Terra is an Albariño born from an unusual combination of vineyards and winemaking vessels, designed to showcase a deeper, more textural, and gastronomic facet of the wines of the Salnés Valley. The most detailed information available on this wine corresponds to the 2023 vintage, a special edition produced for Indigo Wines, the British importer of wines from Zárate and Eulogio Pomares. Its origin and production process allow for a complete understanding of this wine's personality and the philosophy behind it.

A fundamental part of the wine comes from the Carballoso vineyard, located in Xil, Meaño, about six kilometers from the sea and at an altitude of approximately 250 meters. The vines, around 37 years old, are rooted in sandy granite soils, a type of terrain that gives the Albariño a marked sense of freshness, tension, and minerality.

The combination of these two wines, made separately in chestnut and concrete, builds the character of Sal da Terra: a balanced, elegant, harmonious, clean, and expressive Albariño.

In the glass, a wine of great precision emerges, with a fine-grained texture and an expression that, in some nuances, recalls Pedraneira. White fruit and citrus notes integrate with mineral and saline sensations, while aging adds depth and volume without sacrificing freshness. Its passage through the mouth is elegant and balanced, with a refined texture and a flavorful, defined, and precise finish. In the 2023 vintage, this expression reached an alcohol content of 13%.

The name Sal da Terra seems to perfectly summarize the personality of this Albariño: a wine in which the Atlantic landscape, the granitic soils, the proximity of the ocean, the age of the vines, and meticulous winemaking come together to offer a unique interpretation of the Salnés Valley. It is not simply a fresh and aromatic Albariño, but a wine of greater depth, texture, and gastronomic potential.

Eulogio Pomares Sal da Terra 2024 represents a way of understanding wine based on the identity of the vineyard and a winemaking process that respects the personality of each origin. The combination of grapes from unique plots and their fermentation in different vessels allows for the creation of a complex, balanced, and expressive wine, where each element contributes a distinct dimension.

At El Sumiller, we selected Sal da Terra because it reflects one of the most interesting facets of contemporary Albariño: that of landscape wines, crafted with sensitivity and precision, capable of showcasing the depth and diversity of the Salnés Valley. An Atlantic white wine, mineral, elegant, and gastronomic, for those seeking to discover all that a great Albariño can express.
