D.O. Bierzo, Castilla y León - 96+ PARKER. 75% Mencía, 25% Doña Blanca, Palomino, and Garnacha Tintorera grapes from different vineyards in the village of Congosto, at approximately 750 meters above sea level, on degraded soils of blue slate and red clay, one of the last areas of Bierzo to ripen. Whole bunches of all varieties fermented in an open 6,100-liter oak vat with a long maceration but gentle extraction and matured in 300-liter barrels (now that the winery has more space, it is switching to 500-liter barrels) and 1,500-liter amphorae for 14 months. It has 13.5% alcohol, which denotes a complete cycle and good ripeness, meaning a full development of aromas and flavors. VO Cobrana 2023 is a wine with a light yet vibrant character, a very pale color, and an intense nose of red fruits, tart strawberry, and raspberry, with a balsamic undertone that makes it fresh and elegant with a pleasant balance on the palate. Limited production of 8,400 bottles. Recommended by The Sommelier.
