Ultreia responds to the Latin word used by the ancient pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago in greeting, and means something like "forward" or "continue". This is how the famous winemaker Raul Perez christened this wine, along with the name of the municipality berciano from where the grapes of old vines Mencia.
After ten years in Castro Ventosa, Raul Perez decides to leave the family slipstream and begins his career as head coach of Bodegas Estefania, one of the new companies that are based in the Bierzo, which produces the brand Tilenus. About the same time, his restless spirit led him to undertake different challenges: retrieving vineyards almost on the verge of extinction, testing varieties forgotten, advising other wineries and, of course, to produce their own wines. This creates Bodegas Raul Perez, unconventional firm with no fixed address, no specific vineyard: its wines are made where the grapes he seeks, whether from our own vineyards or other, in a denomination or another, white or red.
