Courrensan (Gascony), France – 100% Colombard from vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils, with traces of sand and gravel. Partie Fine 2023 combines the citrus energy of this traditional southwestern French variety with an enveloping texture and a distinct saline character. It is a lively, direct, and refreshing wine that demonstrates the full potential of a grape variety when the vineyard is tended with respect and cellar intervention is kept to a minimum.
DOMAINE JEANDAUGÉ PARTIE FINE 2023
Partie Fine 2023 is a white wine from Gascony that reveals the freshest, most precise and mineral side of Colombard. Made by Sébastien Fezas at Domaine Jeandaugé, it combines the citrus-driven energy of this traditional southwestern French grape with an inviting texture and a distinctive saline character. Lively, direct and refreshing, it shows what Colombard can achieve when the vineyard is farmed with respect and intervention in the cellar is kept to a minimum.
PHILOSOPHY
Domaine Jeandaugé is a small family estate in Courrensan, in the heart of the Gers region of Gascony, southwestern France. The Fezas family has been connected to this land since the nineteenth century. In 2012, Sébastien Fezas took over the estate and began transforming its approach, focusing on respectful viticulture and wines with a more personal identity.
The elimination of herbicides, the use of cover crops and the adoption of biodynamic practices from 2018 onwards are central to a philosophy that views the vineyard as a living ecosystem. Natural preparations and the encouragement of biodiversity help produce healthy, expressive grapes capable of yielding authentic wines without excessive technical intervention.
WINEMAKING AND VINTAGE
Partie Fine 2023 is made from Colombard grown on clay-limestone soils containing sand and gravel. The grapes are harvested by hand and directly pressed. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and the wine remains in unlined concrete tanks, where it develops natural stability, texture and depth without the influence of oak.
The winemaking follows a minimal-intervention approach: the wine is neither fined nor filtered, and no sulphites are added. The 2023 vintage stands out for its freshness, depth and mineral expression. Its acidity is balanced by ripe, juicy fruit, resulting in a vibrant white wine that avoids the overly vegetal or aggressively aromatic profile sometimes associated with Colombard.
VINEYARDS AND GRAPE VARIETY
Partie Fine is made from 100% Colombard. Traditionally grown in southwestern France, this variety is often associated with young wines marked by high acidity. Here, however, it takes on a more complex expression, combining freshness with texture, depth and mineral character.
The clay-limestone soils, together with sand and gravel, help preserve the wine’s tension and liveliness. Respectful vineyard management and controlled yields allow the grape to express itself with greater precision and personality.
TASTING NOTES
Bright, medium-intensity yellow in colour, the wine opens with expressive aromas of lemon and grapefruit, joined by stone fruit, melon and white flowers. Subtle yeast notes and ripe yellow fruit add depth, while a clearly defined mineral character underpins the bouquet.
On the palate, it is fresh, direct and energetic. Its well-integrated acidity runs through the wine, supporting a texture that is broader than its light appearance might suggest. Saline and mineral notes extend the finish, which is clean, citrus-driven and exceptionally refreshing.
FOOD PAIRING
Its freshness and saline character make Partie Fine 2023 an excellent match for seafood and shellfish, particularly oysters, clams and cockles, as well as white fish. It also pairs beautifully with ceviche, sushi, Asian cuisine, fresh salads, vegetable dishes and goat’s cheese. Its vibrant citrus profile makes it a particularly good aperitif wine.
Serve between 9 and 11 °C to fully appreciate its tension, freshness and mineral character.
