Raúl Pérez Pereira, is the seventh generation of a family of winemakers in Valtuille de Abajo (El Bierzo). He was born in 1973 in Valtuille de Abajo and joined the family winery Castro Ventosa with 19 years. It belongs to the generation of winemakers that has revolutionized this region. He helped in the first elaboration of Álvaro Palacios in the area and also the Peique family in his first vintages, so the spirit of collaboration has always been present in his relationship with the Bierzo wineries. He is a wine grower, consultant and one of the most recognized Spanish winemakers inside and outside our borders. In El Bierzo he is also the technical director of Bodegas Estefanía and his brand Tilenus, and recently he has returned to the Castro Ventosa family winery. His collaborations and advice are numerous and include areas such as Rías Baixas (with his Sketch wine) Ribeira Sacra (with his El Pecado wine), Alicante (where he was involved in the relaunch of the Fondillón de Bodegas Monóvar); In addition to having worked in countries such as Portugal, Chile, France or South Africa. Raúl Pérez has a particular way of understanding wine. He is passionate about challenges and, where he sees a vineyard exploding with the potential to make a great wine, he is interested in making wine. In turn, his generosity has led him to many processors have approached Valtuille to make wines in collaboration with Raúl.
In 2003 he started his personal project in El Bierzo under the name of Ultreia, an ancient way with which the pilgrims of the Camino de Santiago greeted each other and that means "we go beyond". Under the Ultreia brand, it produces different plot, town and district areas such as the Ultreia Saint Jaques 2018 that concerns us.
