Bolgheri Sassicaia (Tuscany) - 97 PARKER. Produced by Tenuta San Guido in the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC (Tuscany), this wine comes from vineyards located in the town of Bolgheri, on poor alluvial soils with gravel and stones (“sassi,” from which it takes its name), and under a clear maritime influence that defines its character. It is made from a classic blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with contributions of Cabernet Franc, varieties introduced to the area that have found one of their finest expressions outside of Bordeaux. Vinification takes place with fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, followed by maceration to achieve fine extraction and balance, and then aging for approximately 24 months in French oak barrels, further refined in the bottle before release. In tasting, the 2022 vintage displays an elegant and balanced profile, with aromas of ripe black and red fruit (cassis, cherry), accompanied by balsamic notes, Mediterranean herbs, fine spices, and a slightly toasted background. On the palate, it is structured yet with polished tannins, good acidity that provides freshness, harmonious development, and a long, precise, and persistent finish, more focused on finesse than power.
