VDP Rheingau Germany - 100% dry Riesling from the Rheingau wine region in Germany, crafted by winemaker Eva Fricke. In this 2023 vintage, the Mélange is made as a blend of vineyard parcels located primarily in Eltville and Hattenheim, including parcels from the former Schloss Eltz grand cru, still based on the area's original soils. The 2023 edition includes 25% massal-selected grapes from Eltville Mönchhanach, considered the second selection of the Eltville Collection, while the remainder comes from equally historic parcels with soils such as silt, clay, and quartz-rich gravel, which impart a mineral character and precision typical of Rheingau Rieslings. The name Mélange refers, in fact, to the "blend" of different parcels and soils in the blend.
The wine is produced using certified organic viticulture and environmentally friendly practices. Since 2016, the estate has been officially certified organic, and since 2017, registered with the Vegan Society. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in the winery, and subsequent aging on lees in tanks (generally stainless steel) aims to preserve the wine's freshness, acidity, and varietal expression to the fullest extent without unnecessary intervention. The result is a dry Riesling (trocken) with approximately 13% alcohol, a medium-to-full body, vibrant acidity, marked minerality and complexity, accompanied by notes of ripe fruit, energy on the palate, and a long finish.
