VdF. France (Roussillon), France - a natural red wine produced by Domaine Matassa, located in the Roussillon region of southern France, recognized within the natural wine movement for its expressive style and respect for the Mediterranean terroir. This wine is produced primarily with Grenache grapes, sometimes including Grenache Gris or Carignan depending on the plot, from old vines planted on terraces with schist, clay-limestone, and granitic soils, where the warm climate and the influence of the Tramontana wind help to balance ripening and preserve the fruit's freshness.
The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and in the winery, indigenous yeasts are used, often with whole clusters, to ferment spontaneously without chemical intervention, maintaining the wine's authenticity. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 10 to 12 months in large, used 500-liter barrels or neutral tanks, and is bottled without fining or filtering, thus preserving its vitality and natural character.
Romanissa 2024 presents a light ruby red color with vibrant highlights, while on the nose, aromas of fresh red fruits such as strawberry and raspberry stand out, along with floral notes and subtle Mediterranean herbaceous nuances. On the palate, it is juicy, light to medium-bodied, with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and a fresh finish, making it an approachable, easy-drinking wine that is very expressive of its terroir. It is generally classified as Vin de France, which allows the producer the freedom to reflect the individual character of each vintage and plot. This wine pairs excellently with grilled vegetables, Mediterranean tapas, charcuterie or light pasta dishes, and is recommended to be served at a temperature of 14–16°C to highlight its freshness and vivacity, clearly representing the natural and sincere philosophy of Domaine Matassa.
