AOC. Premier Cru Les Petits Vougeots (Vougeot-Bourgogne), France - 100% Pinot Noir from a Premier Cru plot of approximately 0.53 hectares located in Vougeot, in the Côte de Nuits, known for its calcareous soil with clay content and excellent sun exposure. The winery, currently managed by Charles van Canneyt, employs a traditional and biodynamic approach, enhancing the mineral character and freshness of the terroir.
The 2023 vintage of Les Petits Vougeots reflects a classic Burgundy style: in the glass, it presents an intense ruby red color with violet hues, a very expressive nose where aromas of ripe red and black fruits (cherry, currant, blackberry) intertwine with delicate floral and spicy notes, earthy touches, and a deep mineral background. On the palate, the wine displays a medium to full body, fine and structured tannins, balanced acidity, and a sensation of varietal purity and persistent length, with fruit and terroir in perfect harmony. This invites aging for a few years to observe its evolution, but also makes it enjoyable from a young age with appropriate decanting.
The production of this Premier Cru follows the domaine's traditional philosophy: the grapes are hand-harvested with cluster selection, alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in concrete or stainless steel tanks, followed by aging for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with a moderate percentage of new oak to add complexity without overpowering the terroir's expression. The domaine does not aggressively clarify or filter, thus preserving the purity, texture, and energy of the must, resulting in a wine with a balance of fruit, structure, and minerality that is recognized among the great Burgundies of this vintage.
