CRISTINA PRANDI LANGHE NEBBIOLO 2023

Cristina Prandi was born in 1998 in the heart of Piedmont, Italy, into a family with a long winemaking tradition in Barolo dating back to 1864, when her great-great-grandfather Teobaldo Prandi founded the winery in Piazza Cabutto. The family business was passed down through generations according to tradition—usually to the eldest son—and remained active for decades, although with fluctuations in the visibility and marketing of its wines.

After the death of her grandfather Massimo Prandi in 1987, her uncle Giuseppe Prandi returned from England, where he had been working as an artist, to take over the vineyard. Although he worked respecting local winemaking traditions, he stopped bottling under the “Prandi” label, and the name disappeared from the market for more than 30 years while the family continued cultivating vines.

Cristina began working alongside her uncle in 2015, learning the craft from viticulture to traditional winemaking in concrete and large barrels, with spontaneous fermentations and minimal intervention in the winery. Motivated by reviving the family legacy, she launched her own project under the Prandi brand in 2019 when she was just 20 years old, marking the return of her family's label to the world of wine.

Her project is based on a deep connection with the land, focusing on traditional practices that reflect the character of Nebbiolo and other local varieties. Cristina cultivates her own vineyards on two highly prized plots in Piedmont: one in the historic Paiagallo cru and the other in La Morra, with vines between 40 and 60 years old at altitudes around 300 meters above sea level.

Following her uncle's death in 2021, Cristina continued to drive the project forward on her own. In 2023, she acquired a new winery in La Morra, which is currently being renovated and is expected to be fully operational around 2025. This will consolidate her production there and allow her to expand both volume and quality as her vision matures.

Cristina's philosophy combines respect for traditional Barolo techniques and styles with a personal and contemporary sensibility. She aims for her wines to clearly express the Langhe terroir and the elegance of Nebbiolo, without over-extraction or aggressive treatments. This translates into fermentation with natural yeasts, aging in concrete tanks and large barrels, minimal sulfiting, and no fining or filtration, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit and the aromatic complexity typical of Nebbiolo.

Despite his youth, he has received attention as one of the new promises of Piedmontese wine, representing a generational continuity along with his own voice, especially prominent in wines such as his Langhe Nebbiolo and, in the future, his Barolo DOCG that will be marketed according to their aging schedule.
