Bencaze Atlas 2021 is a natural wine produced in the Lake Balaton region of Hungary, one of Central Europe's most unique and emerging wine regions, thanks to its combination of a moderate continental climate and basaltic volcanic soils. This wine perfectly reflects the minimal intervention philosophy of Bencaze Birtok, a biodynamic project focused on the purest expression of the vineyard and the landscape.
Sourced from plots cultivated using biodynamic farming methods, the vineyard is grown without herbicides or systemic products, promoting biodiversity and the natural balance of the environment. The volcanic soils contribute a pronounced minerality and characteristic depth, while the proximity of Lake Balaton helps moderate temperatures and preserve the grapes' freshness.
The winemaking process follows a traditional, minimal-intervention approach, with spontaneous fermentations using native yeasts and very limited use of sulfur dioxide. The aging process aims to preserve the wine's natural energy and texture, maintaining its varietal and terroir identity intact.
In tasting, Atlas 2021 displays a vibrant, precise, and highly expressive profile, with notes of fresh fruit, wild herbs, citrus, and a pronounced saline and mineral character. On the palate, it combines freshness, texture, and tension, offering a fluid and elegant style that clearly reflects the volcanic character of the Hungarian terroir.
