Julien Delrieu LE JEAU Chenin 2023

Ref. B0204181C

Anjou (Loire Valley), France - 100% Chenin Blanc from a historic vineyard planted in 1955 on west-facing schist soils in the Faveray-Mâchelles area, in the heart of Anjou (Loire Valley, France). This vineyard overlooks the Lys River, a tributary of the Layon, and is adjacent to plots belonging to renowned producers such as Stephan Bernardeau, which lends character and depth to the grapes. The harvest is done by hand, carefully selecting the ripest bunches for this cuvée.

In the winery, the winemaking process aims to fully respect the expression of the vineyard and the variety: fermentations are driven by indigenous yeasts, with no added sulfites (or minimal amounts) and without fining or filtration. The wine is fermented and aged primarily in used 228-liter barrels, allowing the Chenin Blanc's mineral character and the schist nuances to express themselves clearly without the oak dominating. The result is a wine with a powerful and well-integrated structure, balancing freshness, mineral salinity, and a refined texture that reflects both the age of the vines and their unique terroir. Recommended by The Sommelier.
